دیوسائی نیشنل پارک – جو ‘دیوؤں یعنی عفریت جِنوں کی زمین’ کے نام سے مشہور ہے، دیوسائی نیشنل پارک کی بلند سطح مرتفع کے پسِ منظر سے (آسمان کو چھوتے) برف پوش پہاڑ نمودار ہوتے ہیں۔ ہر(سال) بہار (کے موسم میں) ، زرخیز وادی کو (خود رو) جنگلی پھول اور نادر تتلیاں ( ایک فوج کی صورت) ڈھانپ لیتی ہیں، جسے مقامی لوگ ، وہ برف پگھل جانے کے بعد جنگلی حیات سے لطف اندوز ہو رہے ہوتے ہیں، “بہار کا محل” کا نام دیتے ہیں۔ اس حیاتیاتی تنوع سے بھرپور جگہ میں تبتی بھیڑیے، ہمالیا ئی بکریاں، تبتی سرخ لومڑیاں، اور سنہری مارموٹس (بڑے چوہے) بسیرا کرتے ہیں ۔ حکومت نے 1993 میں انتہائی خطرے سے دوچار ہمالیائی بھورے ریچھ کی حفاظت کے مقصد کے ساتھ پارک کو محفوظ درجہ دیا تھا۔ اس پارک کو 2016 میں ‘جاءِ عالمی ورثہ’ یعنی ‘ورلڈ ہیریٹیج اسٹیٹس’ کے لیے بھی نامزد کیا گیا تھا۔

According to Cambridge English Dictionary, the word SPHINX can be defined as, “in ancient stories, an imaginary creature with a lion’s body and a person’s or animal’s head, and, in Greek stories, usually with wings.”

While Merriam-Webster defines the terms Sphinx as, “capitalized : a winged female monster in Greek mythology having a woman’s head and a lion’s body and noted for killing anyone unable to answer its riddle.”

When the word is written in all small letters, as is the case here in the above, Merriam-Webster defines it as, “an ancient Egyptian image in the form of a recumbent lion having a man’s head, a ram’s head, or a hawk’s head.”

1) Can you name some tourists sites of Pakistan and give reasons for their popularity?

Answer: The nature has blessed Pakistan with heavenly beauty. From Karachi to Khunjerab, the list of famous places would never end. However, here are some of the most famous tourist sites in Pakistan with reasons for each:

Clifton in Karachi: Rare is to find a person in Pakistan who does not know about this beautiful tourist spot in Karachi. Along the Arabian Sea, people visit the golden sand beach of Clifton to enjoy camel rides, cool sea breeze and spectacular sunsets.
Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque: According to Dawn, in 2021, UNESCO conferred on Lahore the title of ‘City of Literature’. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the modern city, it remarkably preserves the historical landmarks with stunning architecture in the form of Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque.
Mohenjo-Daro: This ancient archaeological site offers insights into Pakistan’s history and the old civilizations that once lived here.

2) Why do you think tourism is neglected in Pakistan? Give at least 3 reasons for your answers.

Answer: Tourism in Pakistan is not up to level where it should be. Here are three reasons for why tourism is neglected in the country:

Security concerns: Although Pakistan is a safe country to travel, it is often labeled with political instability and terrorism. This makes tourists change their mind about visiting here.
Lack of infrastructure: Insufficient facilities to accommodate tourists and poor transportation do not let tourism develop in Pakistan.
Negative perception: International media often portrays Pakistan negatively. It badly impacts tourist perceptions and the global image of the country.

3) Why is Deosai National Park known as the ‘Land of Giants’?

Answer: Deosai National Park is surrounded by some of the world’s highest peaks. It has an altitude of 3500 to 5200 meters. This is why it is known as the ‘Land of Giants’.

4) What measures can be taken to improve tourism in Pakistan?

Answer: Pakistan has already made into the list of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world. The government only needs to take the following important measures to improve tourism over here:

Plan and implement effective security measures to ensure the safety of tourists.
Allot more budget to further facilitate tourists, build accommodations, and develop standard roads for them to have easy and smooth access to the farthest tourist destinations across the country.
Make effective marketing campaigns on media to spread the real positive image of Pakistan both domestically and internationally.

5) What are Makran Coast and Hingol National Park known for?

Answer: Both Makran Coast and Hingol National Park are well known for their unique natural landscapes, diverse wildlife, and geological formations.

The Makran Coast offers beautiful, eye-catching views along the Arabian Sea. On the other hand, Hingol National Park attracts tourists with its lunar rock formations, unique diverse wildlife, and active mud volcanoes.

6) Pakistan is the home to many glaciers other than Baltoro Glacier. Research and come up with a list of as many glaciers as you can.
