What is the Environment?
The environment is everything around us. It includes the air we breathe, the water we drink, the land we walk on, and all living things like plants and animals.
Basically, it is everything in nature that surrounds and affects us. Taking care of the environment means keeping it clean and healthy. Because this way, we and future generations can continue to live on planet earth happily.
As we have come to know, the main topics in this chapter are Pollution and Deforestation.
So, let’s try to understand briefly what they are, and how they affect the environment.
Pollution
Pollution happens when harmful substances get into the air, water, or soil. These substances can come from factories, cars, or even things like litter.
Pollution can make the air dirty to breathe, the water unsafe to drink, and the soil less fertile for growing plants. Also, it can also harm animals and make them sick.
Overall, pollution makes the environment unhealthy for both living things and the planet earth itself.
Deforestation
Deforestation is when forests are cut down or cleared away. This often happens to make room for things like farms, buildings, or roads. When trees are cut down, it affects the environment in several ways.
First, trees help clean the air by absorbing carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Without trees, there’s more carbon dioxide in the air.
Second, trees provide homes and food for many animals, so cutting them down can harm wildlife.
Third, trees help prevent soil erosion and regulate the water cycle, so deforestation can lead to problems like flooding and droughts.
Overall, deforestation disrupts the balance of nature and harms the environment.
